Back to Work

I work for Omaha Public Schools at an elementary in an urban area. While the area my school is in… is challenging for sure, I love this school! The kids are great! The staff at my school is amazing and my Principal is hands down the best there is. Today, Channel 6 News came out to visit our teachers while they get classrooms ready for their students. Enjoy the video! Continue reading Back to Work

My Spirit Is Just Not Religious

01232013 Morning Light

Everyday I feel confronted by people that feel the need to shove their religious beliefs in my path. Yesterday it was a couple of nice old ladies at my door with a bible. I was nice and thanked them for worrying about my soul but sent them on their way.

Everywhere in this world people have their own culture that is based on their beliefs and religion. Socially it brings people together. It helps to give meaning to their worldview. I get that. I do not wish to change their view. I just don’t know why so many religious people feel the need to “sell” their religion to others by way of their own personal crusade.

Throughout mankind’s history and throughout the world, clashes of religions have caused wars and death. Why can’t people just “live and let live”. I have learned to avoid religion, avoid the labels and avoid the dogma. I love the people, not the dogma. Please don’t worry about my soul.

My Spirit is my own and it is one with all of nature and the natural beauty of this world. I do not need to be “annoy”nted by someone else’s idea of a god or belief. I do not need to make myself right to be accepted. Mother Earth has already accepted me as her own and the Creator does not judge.

I have found my own path and it is a good path.

Just My Style…for now

I never used to wear jewelry. It seemed at the time, too flashy. I was not that person. Not a girly girl. Not into bling or glitz. Diamonds…? Meh.

My husband used to buy me beautiful necklaces, sapphires, diamonds, opals. I loved them, but I just never found an occasion to wear them. Maybe he should have just gotten me computer stuff. I am such a nerd.

Then a few years ago my Aunt Delores gave me a jade necklace and I began to wear it. It seemed right somehow to relate with my Chinese heritage, and my Aunts and my cousins all wore there jade necklaces and this was a family thing. I did not want to be left out. I wore it with pride.

Last year, I got interested in DIY projects on Pinterest. I started a new hobby making paper bead jewelry. I had so much fun that I just couldn’t quit. I made hundreds of bracelets, necklaces and earrings. I decided to do some in Morse Code messages. I tend to be inspired with Native American styles but I will make any custom look someone else wants. Soon I had so many I could not wear them all…but I tried (lol):

I do love my paper beads, but this led me to find more “found” beads to use with my paper beads. I was then looking for jewelry to re-purpose at the Goodwill and garage sales. Finally I located bead sources to order new beads. Now I cannot stop. I started an Etsy Shop called Beadwalker Jewelry. I decided to go to some craft fairs. Where can I go from here?

I think I will try to take a jewelry making class with silver.
